Sweet Valentine’s Day Recipe

Claycia Crafting Corner - Sweet Valentine's Day Recipe

Hello Everyone, today I want to share this simple sweet recipe to celebrate Valentine’s day.

A little bit of background story. I used to eat this sweet at birthday parties when growing up in my country. There are two reasons why I wanted to share it on Valentine’s day. One is because the name of this recipe is “Bem Casados”, which means well married. The other reason is that today is my Brother’s birthday and since I share those childhood memories, I thought this recipe was a perfect combination of both occasions.

Here are the Ingredients

Ingredients

2 cans (14 oz each) of sweetened condensed milk
3 tables spoons of cocoa powder
2 1/2 tablespoons of butter
Sprinkles of your preference

Directions

For the chocolate batch: In a saucepan add 1 can of condensed milk, and 3 generous tablespoons of cocoa powder, and mix both ingredients until very well combined. As a side note, please don’t mix these two ingredients with the stove on, or it will start cooking and it won’t mix well. You might also end up with lumps. After well combined, turn on the stove add the 1/15 tablespoon of butter, and cook over medium heat stirring constantly, for roughly 10 minutes, or until thickened. One way to know when it’s ready is if you can see the bottom of the pan when tilting it. Remove from the heat and transfer to a greased plate or bowl to cool down completely.

*The reason why I added half a tablespoon extra is because of the cocoa powder. I was afraid of getting a little bit dryer than I wanted. But you can add only one tablespoon and just pay attention to the cooking time.

Second Batch

For the white Batch: Add 1 can of condensed milk in a saucepan, and 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook it on medium heat for about 12 minutes, or until you can see the bottom of the pan when tilting a bit. Once cooked, remove it from the heat and transfer it to a greased plate or bowl and let it cool down completely.

Assembling it

Once it’s completely cool. Just grease your clean hands with a bit of butter and roll each one, the dark, and the light part separately. After you finish rolling both, just get one part of each and roll it together.

In the traditional recipe, the bem casados are rolled over white granulated sugar, but I always preferred the ones with no sugar on top. Also, I’m adding my own colors here, because I haven’t seen them with sprinkles, but since I had these white and pink sprinkles I decided to use them.
They do have much of a taste, yes they are sweet, but not as sweet as pure sugar. Also, they add a crunch to the Bem casados.

Now is your turn, try it out, they taste amazing!
