How to Make an Acrylic Paint storage

Featured Image

Hello everyone, today will share how I made this acrylic paint storage with foam board from Dollar Tree. I made this piece to fit the Cubby/Storage unit in my craft room.

The measurements of this acrylic paint storage unit in my craft space are 13.25 by 13 inches and 16 inches deep. The unit I made with foamboard is just 3.5 inches deep, which fits the acrylic paints well.

I started measuring and cutting the foamboard into 7 horizontal panels of 13.25 by 3.5 inches, and 7 vertical panels of 13 by 3.5 inches. I measured spaces of 1.5 inches in each panel and cut a gap halfway through on the same thickness of the foam board. That’s how we will assemble everything. The only time I’ll use hot glue is to put a piece of foamboard at the back, so the paints don’t fall behind the unit.

If like mine, the measurements of the cubby shelves are not exact, I would suggest marking on the board panels where you started to measure, also which ones are vertical and horizontal. At least my main storage unit required this, to keep the project straight and fit well.

Obviously, you can adapt this project to whatever size fits your needs. However, I wouldn’t make this to store anything heavy. Keep in mind this is foam board and it’s a fragile material.

The storage cube makes it strong and sturdy enough to hold many paints. But, I do not know how it would work as a standalone project (not added/Inserted in the cubby).

Below, I have a short video showing how I made this project on my YouTube Channel.
